Chasing the Sacramento Northern
Author: jbwest

The Western Railway Museum has been running their annual "Scenic Limiteds" through the emerald green hills around Rio Vista Junction, so I wandered over to take some pix.  It was a picture perfect day, and while the midday sun was high, by the time the 3:30 departure left the light was very nice.  I only saw the real SN electrification once, when they where still switching around Yuba City in the early 60's.  So it was nice to see what the real deal might have looked like when they ran passengers between the Bay Area and Sacramento.  The WRM is a class operation, the track and overhead look like what a good interurban must have looked like in the most prosperous of times.

I imagine it sounded as great as it looked.

Here are a couple more, just for the heck of it.  Too bad I didn't get the fence out of the second picture, but initially I was trying to use a post for framing.  For five miles of railroad there are a fair number of photo spots.  It is a relaxing fun line to chase.

I had been saying that mysefl for years, I live only an hour away.  And finally I.....just did it.  And it was a nice way to spend a relaxed train chasing day.

In that 2nd photo, I don't see any trolley poles up for the wire!
