Steam & Excursion > UP 4014 chase next week...

I'm planning to get out to WY next weekend.  I have some questions for the gang;
1) any good suggestions about places to photo the train as it leaves Laramie?  The few times I have tried to railfan Laramie the Wyoming weather closed in, so I didn't get good experiences with locations.

2) Is the best bet (so far) that they will come east over "traditional" Sherman Hill versus coming along Track 3?  Any best guesses appreciated.

3) Any other good location ideas?

Yes, I realize that the population of Wyoming will double next weekend and there won't be much chance to "leapfrog" the train due to traffic, so I want to get a few good shots if I can.

Gary, you are aware that the 4014/844 train has gone to Ogden, and is on its way back to Cheyenne right now? If you go next week it will not be running.

Posted schedule has the train running from Laramie to Cheyenne on Sunday May 19th.

My guess is that they will run track 1 or 2 all the way from Laramie to Cheyenne. Hermosa is an obvious choice to see them working up hill.

they are spreading the trip home out. Giving lots of love to the little towns in Wyoming.

Usually 99..9% they run eastbound trains over 1-2 track. Just east of Buford has I-80 overpass for a shot or a little further is Granite. Then further east is Otto road with the little bridge at Borie you can stand on.


Or Tie Siding on 287.
