Saturday's Track Car Excursion on the DL
Author: Pattenburg

Twenty-eight track cars were set to depart from Scranton (PA) around 7:15 AM, reaching Stroudsburg around noon before heading to the Delaware Water Gap where the track cars were turned at Slateford Junction for the trip back to Scranton. It was quite a lineup of speeders with many railroads being represented. Included in the group was a track car for the Marines and another one done in a Checker Taxi paint scheme. The owner even had the "rates" posted on the side of his car. I did a video of the cars as they passed through the Delaware Lackawanna's Mill Creek Road grade crossing in Stroudsburg. Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for the post.  Would this area have been the site of (or close to) what was known as Gravel Place on the railroad?

Not exactly sure of the exact location of gravel place but I have a feeling that it is close by here, perhaps a little bit west of this location.

Why is it that the crossing lights do not work to stop traffic?

The crossing lights work fine....

Its common that the lightweight rail vehicles like motor cars, hand-cars, flat trailers, etc.,  ( rail wheels) have one side’s wheels insulated at the axles.

A single motorcar does not have enough mass to reliably ( 100%) operate the electrical continuity circuits  that control the highway crossing control systems : lights,  or lights & gates.

So, safety prevails in that these crews know that their motor cars must stop at all highway crossings & yield to highway traffic.
Also, motorcars do not operate railroad signal systems, and must be protected by applicable authorities issued by the dispatchers who control the absolute rights to occupy the rail circuits.  Constant, accurate communication is the key ....

( I’m surprised that WebMaster didn’t jump on this, right away... there were reports that his son is skilled at restoration of these similar vehicles, from the wheels, up..)

The webmasters son only builds (hand) pump cars.

Same electrical insulation provisions are also required (of hand pumped cars and trailers) and part of the included features of the construction.
