C&O 1309 Update
Author: akpsteam

Saw a 30 minute old Facebook video post by Jason Sobczynski at KRM demonstrating the grease gun borrowed from the WMSR and said that it was used putting grease in the siderods that are now installed on 1309's driving wheels the week before last.

You mean that #1309 has actually been lifted up and then lowered down onto the wheel & axle sets, in the rear engine?

I would hope that they are near or already at that point considering this was about a week and a half or two weeks ago and the WSMR has less than a month to get it done.

As of Tuesday, June 4th at 1:57 pm #1309 has not been re-wheeled. Photos are of the front engine....

Ok......HOW and from WHERE did they get or duplicate the exact brass all around needed for the wheels?  That to me seemed like a tremendous job seeing that the correct, original brass was stolen and sold for junk. How did it get done so fast? Where, by whom? And, with what money?

OK, so they have some side rods mounted on the front engine, but what about the rear engine? Has the locomotive been lifted with cranes, and wheels & axles installed?

So many good questions, will we ever get the truth (You can't handle the truth!)?

Well based on the photos posted here the locomotive is outside and the front engine and wheels are where the locomotive used to be in the shop.

i don't have any answers for you but, having worked in a large machine shop, they don't take long to manufacture once you have the proper material in stock, this is not rocket science, just old fashion machine shop skills and equally skilled craftsmen

Not necessarily...The shop is long enough for all to fit inside at one time.... except the tender...

Correct! I read on another forum that there is a news paper story about the whole "July event" being canceled, and folks being offered returns on their money spent for tickets.

Well I won't even think about this place for 2019.   I was hoping the July thing would happen and by fall they would have things running smoothly.  Looks like it may not even run in the fall with track work, and rebuild issues still to be worked out.

Did I read that right, that they OWN 1309????  I thought it was a lease from the Museum in Baltimore initially????

Yet still no mention of the track & curve situation being corrected in order for 1309 to access the turntable. It's also interesting that "they" discovered that the 1309 is heavier than the other locomotives using the line. Gee,,,,,,,,,,,,,,imagine THAT!

I thought I heard somewhere that they were not going to be able to use the turntable as 1309 was too big.  I heard all the trains would be engine upgrade to Frostburg, and a diesel pulling the train back to Cumberland, I assume with 1309 on the other end still pointed west!

It will fit on the turntable just fine...... it just can't reach the turntable due to the track configuration......
