Just curious why Duluth was a stop for the "Big Boy."  Wonderful location with the
musuem there and great for the many visitors who got to see the engine plus the
smaller musuem steam engine too. 

Because someone wrote a request to UP from the museum?

It is interesting, when I think UP, Duluth doesn't exactly come to mind, CNW connection to the area?

I read that the U.P. Steam chief visited the museum recently and was very impressed by it - particularly the very good condition of the Yellowstone in the museum - which he said was in better shape than 4014 when the rehab started - and which is bigger in tractive force. CNWs two routes into Duluth have been replaced but two sets of trackage rights.  They still have a yard and a bit of track up there. It was all CSt.PM&O originally.

I'm surprised that anyone would go to Duluth on purpose.

You answered your own question.  Duluth is C&NW heritage location. BSB

Duluth is a wonderful place to visit in summer.

Laker spotting at the lift bridge rivals train spotting at your favorite rail spot.

Yes.  In fact the Duluth and St. Paul newspapers both reported that there was a topless sunbather on Park Point Beach just last week.

Why wouldn't it go anywhere on the entire UP system?

It's the home of Duluth Trading?

I can safely say that it won't be on the Alden Branch though that would be interesting!

Why did the Big Boy go to Duluth?

1) It confused Lake Wobegon with Lake Superior
2) It wanted to drink Fitger's Beer
3) To hear that Upper Midwest accent spoken by Minnesotans
4) To see a loon, the Minnesota state bird
5) To watch a laker pass under the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge
6) Upon hearing that Minnesota women are really awesome, the "Big Boy" wanted to become a "Big Man"

She probably has a Prius,
