Steam & Excursion > UP 4014 Sunrise

Good Sunday morning from West Chicago, IL. I worked 7 days in a row this week and was able to take Sunday off. I was out the door at 3 a.m., 3+ hours driving one way to West Chicago, IL, with a plan to photograph UP 4014 at sunrise.

Looks as if you are looking into the firebox ready to stoke the fire...great image, only one minor thing, find a way to photo-shop out those 3 lens glares and you will have a million dollar photo!

I like unique images. If one isn't careful they can end up with the same shot as 1000 other people. If one plans they can be the only one to get a particular shot.

Nice shot, question, when the Big Boy's were delivered new, what route did they take before arriving on UP property?

There is a news clipping in my files where the Cleveland Plain Dealer did a small photo story about a Big Boy laying over at NYC Collingwood Shops on its delivery trip.

I can't figure out how the clearance issues worked because since 2012, NKP Berkshire 765 has deadheaded several times over the NYC main between NKP at Vermillion, OH and NYC Rockport YaRD with speed restrictions at many of the bridges. What speed restrictions applied to the BB?

I also got a copy of a letter recently where the first order of SP Daylights went from Lima Locomotive Works via DT&I to the NYC/BIG FOUR at Quincy, Ohio. First I ever heard of that! Can't imagine even a drained Daylight going over the Quincy high bridge.
