A significant locomotive built for the Canadian Government Railway in 1914 by Montreal Locomotive Works. The CGR was created to operate the some of the railways which would eventually become the CNR in 1923.

The Intercolonial Railway (Halifax-Montreal) failed just before WW1, and its operation was essential to the war effort to carry troops and supplies to the Atlantic convoys at Halifax.
The Intercolonial had struggled for decades, so their locomotives were aging and in need of repair. That said, they had a handsome fleet of 4-6-2's for hauling the "Ocean Limited" and other passenger trains. I was told the CGR 4-6-2's were built more powerful than the ICR locomotives they replaced to handle the heavy troop trains.

Because the US joined WW1 later than Canada, the CP route across northern Maine to the Maritimes was not available for troop transport.
