4014s visit to Texas brought fun and mayhem.

Photo 1 is of a local who decided crossing the tracks while the gates down and throwing the bird at a photo line was a good idea. 

Photo 2 is a drone shot west of Hondo

Photo 3 is in the curve at Comstock.

Real nice shots, even the one with the dummy!

He's no worse then some "railfans". You all know the type I'm talking about.

Sadly jerks are always with us. I was in Victorville for the 4014 but I decided jerk would spoil many pictures so I mentally prepared for them and planned several photo locations. Sure enough they showed up in force. The Johnny come lately getting in front of the photo line and don't give a damn, the guy in a lime fluorescent coat on the tracks "it's only a train" or the horde that stand within feet of the train for what reason I don't know. The guy driving next to the train in Barstow so it spoiled everyones pictures. Well it's hard to deal with but it's part of taking pictures. Patrick

Well I'd have to agree with the "its only a train" line. It is only a train. 

All nice, like the 3rd shot best.

Well, if it's only a train, then go home and stay the hell out of my picture!

Y'all are brutal!!!!  I'm going to make an assumption that most of the folks who are on TO and who have commented on this post have been railfans/foamers, hardcore at that, for a long time.  Going to a higly publicized, once in a lifetime, very publically visible event like 4014 coming thorugh town should carry with it the expectation that people who have never taken a train picture in their lives will venture trackside, as the gentleman wearing the overalls in the first pic shows, even on the tracks.  As a railfan you ought to expect that.  They don't know the first thing about railfan etiquette, photo lines, or consideration that they may be, with their oversized blue caboose plopped right into the middle of someone else's carefully composed picture, messing up what would otherwise be a great shot.  As for trespassing and standing in the tracks, WE know we shouldn't do that, but the general public has NO idea about issues related to safetly/trespassing.  Zero.  Nada.  I've asked a lot of folks I've seen around railroad property, and they don't have any concept of how seriously the rail industry takes security.  And give the guy credit sfor some common sense: he's standing on a track that is obviously rusty from disuse and thinking to himself he's ok, and that he's only there with his cellphone camera for 45 seconds.

I would have suspected grave consequences being likely when i saw a grown man wearing dungerees... what a muppet...

The dweeb who @£$%$ed my video decided to stand in the centre of the track with his tripod as 4014 barrelled straight towards him, until it was about 200m away.

dood with the overalls perhaps thought it was his town his road, then you are trying to tell him how to act in his town, while you guys are rr property, he may not want to, or be used to tresspassing...I don't expect people free shots on a train that is getting local TV coverage etc, unless you  set up with that in mind, somewhere more remote, a car may have been able to pull up and block more of your shot, unless a sheriff was there.

We have a Bingo! Also, the other poster is correct. I'll edit my prior statement to: its "just a BIG train."

I like #2- the Hondo shot.  It really shows what that part of Texas looks like.
Kind of a grand, flat, green eloquence, yet so different from West Texas. Appreciate the look!

Great shots, especially #3 - sweet curve.

As for the "overalls" dude in photo #1:  Being inconsiderate to others is only a minor annoyance - crossing the tracks when the gates are down is just the type of behavior that will help eliminate any type of special runs in the future.  It seems to take very little these days for the blood-sucking ambulance-chasing lawyers to come out of the woodwork - if this dude tripped and fell in front of the train, you can bet UP would be sued out the wazoo for providing an "attractive distraction" that caused the untimely death of overalls-guy.  I'm still amazed (and grateful!) that they have kept the steam program going after last summer when 844 struck and killed a lady standing too close to the tracks.

PS - I don't think ALL lawyers are blood-sucking ambulance chasers...

Given the unfortunate litigious nature of our society I too am grateful that UP continues to operate these special trains.
