Street Running With Steam Was All Part Of The Steam Era!
Author: LoggerHogger

Back in 1940 when Southern Pacific #2465 was running down the streets of Oakland, California, no one gave it a second thought.  This was simply the daily ritual played out on many railroads around the country at a time when steam power still dominated.

Today, however, we stop and take notice when we see a photo like to to remind us how things were back then.

Great pic, thanks.  Is that a deadheading diner behind the tender?

I wonder what rules the road traffic operated by and how the lanes were striped off?

Looks like a railfan hanging out on the 3rd story fire escape. Someone took notice. Great shot. Looks like an eastbound at Jack London Square.
