Wow. I love that shot.  It's the ultimate chase pix.

Yeah, there was a lot of that going on. Also, nobody stopped at the California Agricultural Inspection Station either. Heck of a day...

Best part back then was that there were few chasers and little or no pacing.  On my 33rd birthday in December 1975 I chased it from my first shot at Ozol to Tracy on the Cal-P in California.  Two lane road,  some fog, etc. and I got eight really good shots,  including a couple while driving pacing the 4449.  Probably wouldn't work that way today.

Very nice!
In the West the display sites were spread out far enough to include some daytime running. The normal trip starts for the AFT were at 2:00am, and arrival times were simply a matter of distance. There were a few legs that were purposely done during daylight hours- but very few (Harrisburg PA and Lakeland FL are the only two I can think of off hand).

I remember once, after at least half a day spent that way, at home that night when it was quiet-- I could just about hear the whistle on "replay"-- without TRYING to bring it to mind.
