Steam & Excursion > Camino. Cable & NorthernDate: 05/31/20 18:53 Camino. Cable & Northern Author: cc51 Here's another flyer from a long-lost California tourist steam railroad, Hal Wilmunder's Camino, Cable & Northern. Located in Camino, it was intended to operate to the South Terminal of Michigan-California Lumber Company's spectacular cableway high above the American River. According to the brochure this would have given the railroad some 10 miles of track through some nice country. It closes with an optimistic to "visit us often as we grow". Sadly, this wasn't to be as local "nimbys" (not in my backyard) activists blocked further construction. During the line's short life it was nice to ride and photograph. It's interesting to note that the line refers to itself as the California State Railroad Museum. The flyer is dated 1970, and the state museum we all know was not in existence until some years later. enjoy, -cc51

It's hard to believe they built that cable crossing. Just getting the cable across the chasm alone must have been a sight to see.
