NKP 765 over Rockville Bridge in August 2012
Author: OCtrainguy

I was going through some photos and looking for some videos and came across these.  Turning back the clock to August 18, 2012, as NS partnered with the Fort Wayne Historical Society and ran steam-powered trips with Nickel Plate Road 765. The employee special trips ran from Enola into Harrisburg (PA) and back. Here, a train heads east across the Rockville Bridge.

There were some people kayaking in the river who heard the steam whistle. They asked me what it was and I told them a steam engine was coming out of the Enola Yard. They turned around and watched the train roll across the bridge.  It was a fun day to be trackside and riverside.  Hope you enjoy!

No, I found a small 'island' on the eastern side of the river and walked out to it.

It must have been a great experience to operate the 765 over such historic locations as Rockville Bridge and Horseshoe Curve. Might you have any stories you can share about these or any other trips Rich?

Appreciated your time with the FWRHS. Trust you’re enjoying retirement.

Sincerely,

Thank you, Mark. It was indeed a memorable experience to run the 765 across that massive viaduct...several times!

Yes, I have written a few stories about my years with the 765 crew. Check my web site.
