Steam & Excursion > Progress on "A word" removal on CB&Q 5631 Sheridan WY

The attached photo show the 1940 built 4-8-4 CB&Q #5631 in a cocoon for the removal of asbestos and repairs and painting.
Photos of the locomotive 10 years ago were not bad but this clean up will give it longer life and look better.  The display sign with the fact of the locomotive have many of its specification except its engine number.  That will be more evident when the work is done.

"Mohawk" type he queried?

Wasatch Railroad Railroad Contractors have te contract to remove the asbestos on this locomotive and I believe a cosmetic restoration.
They did the 4004 in Cheyenne and it is amazng the job they did.
A few years later and the locomotive still looks so good.

Mohawk?

According to the sign this is an O-5-A MOHAWK 4-8-4 type. I did not realize CB&Q considered the 4-8-4 a Mohawk. I thought that was NYC for a 4-8-2. Or is there "A word" on the sign that is incorrect and needs to be removed.

They were not considered a Mohawk on the CB&Q. Whoever did that sign years ago had the wrong info. Not sure if the Burlington men called them Northerns or by the class designation O-5

Another error on the info sign : driver diameter of O5 Northerns was 74 inches , not 6ft 6inches. 

Burlington men simply called them 05's
 

A friend of mine was up there the past couple days and sent this to us. Wasatch did a good job (don't know if there's any more left to do or not), and the grass even grew back! Haha.

Well, I would hope that lagging will be added and the tender paint will match the loco. Yes, the Mohawk thing is glaring but I suppose that was put there when the loco was dedicated.

Edit: We don't know what the contract entailed. Perhaps it just involved removal of the asbestos.
