Big South Fork Scenic Railway- Stearns, KY
Author: P

Made my 1st trip here this past weekend. They have a nice setup with two coal camps maintained along their line. I had no idea that a washout occurred about halfway down the line preventing access to the Blue Heron tipple. Of course, it is in an extremely remote area, but I wondered if anyone has any, or seen any photos of the washout? I can't seem to find any and was curious as to how bad it looked. Per the staff, it is quite a problem and fixing it has not been easy, but there are slowly working towards making repairs.

If they are running trains, what do they use for motive power?

They run 4 miles to the Barthell Coal Camp.  2 hour layover to explore and then back.   Here is a pic of the power.

Looks like a big NO from the Trainorders crowd.

Sometimes I'm amazed at the knowledge and coverage here on Trainorders and sometimes big gaps in coverage.

In any case, I have something to look forward to the next time I'm in south central Kentucky
