I have a copy of a photo by Chris Fussell which shows the UP tender lettered "Southern Pacific" but it won't copy. Contact Chris for the photo. Both crews had fun making their steeds look like property of the other road. Oh, and it was a great trip riding behind this doubleheader in one of UP's terrific passenger cars, City of Portland. At the time there was a lot of traffic and photos here on TO.

Date: 08/14/20 11:19 Re: Photo of UP 844 lettered for SP (Portland) Author: asheldrake the whole thing was an excellent example of "never say never" and a lesson in the power of connections making things happen and the friendships between engine crews.....Chris also took the excellent photo of the 4449 and a Amtrak Cascades "racing" south on the return....a great ride. now if we could just find a well connected alumni of Oregon State University to get the 4449 back to corvallis.........
