Steam & Excursion > How would fans react?Date: 10/20/20 10:09 How would fans react? Author: Frisco1522 If a book were published about steam and had a number of "colorized (very convincing) photos in it, would fans turn up their noses at it?
Would it work better in B&W? Date: 10/20/20 10:22 Re: How would fans react? Author: asheldrake while I don't claim to be representative.........my preference would be to go with the original photos.....I do appreciate colorized postcards but that was done historically......Arlen

I think you would get pros and cons to the idea. My suggestion would be to colorize them, then someplace insert the B&W original for comparison. It could be a smaller size on the same page as the colorized, or a section at the end showing all the B&W together. Then folks can see both and compare to two. Would take up a bit more space in the book, but might be very worthwhile. What gets me are the guys who shoot stuff today and make it old-time B&W. Years ago I was happy to get ride of B&W!! Greg Date: 10/20/20 12:43 Re: How would fans react? Author: wabash2800 I think it would be fine as long as the readers know that the photos have been colorized.

A book mixed with full color (and perhaps even some B&W) seems like a nice idea to me. Date: 10/20/20 18:40 Re: How would fans react? While I like the idea of side by side comparisons, doing so would reduce the number of photos, or increase the size of the book.

They recall the hand-coloring of B&W photos of the era--an art in and of itself. Date: 10/21/20 07:49 Re: How would fans react? Author: Frisco1522 The new Photoshop Elements 2020 has a colorize feature. This was a quick "colorize" and then a trip through Luminar 4 for a sky. I don't claim to be good at it, but it shows what is possible.
I don't like the backdated digital images that much either Greg. |
