While Her Railroad Shuts Down This Locomotive Still Stands Ready!
Author: LoggerHogger

In August, 1952 railfan John Carrack heard that Long-Bell was beginning to shut down it's extensive logging railroad operation out of Tennant, California.  He decided it was time to capture on film what was left of this line while he could.

When he arrived in the company town of Tennant he went immediately to the railroad shops and the track leading up to it.  There he found L-B's Baldwin 2-6-2 #7 that we see here.  She was still sporting her Gerlinger spark arrestor to prevent forest fires in the summer logging season.  While somewhat dirty, #7 still was ready for service in the last days of the L-B operation.

If #7 looks familiar, it is because she was the first of a pair of "Twins" as the railroad called them built in 1920 for L-B's predecessor, The Weed Lumber Co.  Here sister engine, #8 was featured a few days ago in this post:  https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,5125533

It is a shame the neither of "The Twins" survived the scrapper after L-B shut down for good.
