In my young days.
Author: Frisco1522

A 20 year old me chatting with Arthur B. Johnson next to CB&Q old warhorse 4960 in St. Louis before a fantrip to Hannibal, MO and return.
I turned 4 times 20 today and the engine is in a lot better shape than me.  4960 was a real trouper.
My future (and present) wife took the picture.  We've been together since 1957 and had fun riding and chasing.

Happy Birthday, Don!!!

Hope that you had an enjoyable day -- you deserve it. And a toast to you in appreciation for all you have done through the years for railroad and steam preservation and operation. And that certainly includes all of the marvelous images you have shared here on Trainorders. Many of us had some great times and made some wonderful memories thanks to your efforts, and your dedicated work. Hats off to you on this special day, my friend!

Happy birthday Frisco1522! You are one of a handful of steam contributers on this site that help others learn and enjoy the steam world without being belittled, nitpicked, and yelled at for being imperfect in steam 101. Thanks for everything you have shared on the table.

Happy Birthday Don!  Good photo that reminds me how much I appreciated that CB&Q excursion locomotives always looked just like they did in regular service (albeit maybe cleaner) -- no whitewalls, flags, etc.  OK, there was the unfortunate gold 5632 but that was an aberration.

For those of you who may not know, Don is also a superb modeller -- the attached is a Frisco 4-6-0, accurate in every respect, that started life as a PFM Northern Pacific 4-6-0.

Don,
Wishing you a Blessed Happy Birthday and a longer life to come for both of you.
You beat me to this Big Ball by 61 days, but like you, I'm still enjoy reminiscing my early days as steam was winding down, making way to dieselization.  I wouldn't trade a thing for those days living alongside the Rock Island's tracks in Southwest Kansas and feeling the ground pound as their 5000 and 5100's passed by my farm home.  Enjoy the day and keep your Rails Singing too!!

Have a great one, Don.  15 days ago I turned one more than you just did, I guess we are all getting old, but then, we remember those steam days long ago.  And like you, my wife and I have been together since 1961.
