Steam & Excursion > The 4014 Leaving Limon, CO ... One Year AgoDate: 11/25/20 21:46 The 4014 Leaving Limon, CO ... One Year Ago Author: Odyssey Near the end of the 4014's "Great" SW loop tour in October-November of 2019, I intercepted
the tour in Sharon Springs, KS on the evening of 11/22. I chased the 4014 to Limon, CO along the KP Line on 11/23 and stayed over in Limon. The turnout for the display day on 11/24 was well attended and Limon was gracious host. The real reason I decided to hang around was to catch the 4014's departure from Limon on 11/25, one year ago ... it turned out to be a spectacular display. Following are two images of the 4014 in all its steam glory ... one color and one B&W. The weather was beginning to change with an approaching snowstorm about 8 hours away, but the morning was sunny and chilly. There were not a lot of options for getting on the right side of the sun ... so I did my best to use the steam to help the situation of shooting into the sun. The third image is the 4014 running westbound on the eastern outskirts of Strasburg, CO. The stone culvert it is crossing is one of the branches of Comanche Creek and the approximate location of the final spike on the KP Line that joined and created the true Transcontinental Line from the east coast to west coast as a continuous connected rail line (8/15/1870) ... Strasburg is adjacent to I-70 thirty-some miles east of Denver. There is nicely done history park and museum in the town, a worthwhile stop. Given all that has transpired this year, sure glad the 4014 had the opportunity to run free, and I'm certainly glad to have participated in several of its sojourns cross country ... Thanks for lookin'! Odyssey Evergreen, CO Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/25/20 22:07 by Odyssey. Date: 11/26/20 04:24 Re: The 4014 Leaving Limon, CO ...
