Steam & Excursion > Audio: Prairie Days, Part 2 - Kentucky Central 11Date: 03/03/21 07:29 Audio: Prairie Days, Part 2 - Kentucky Central 11 Author: MaryMcPherson June 8, 1991.
Kurt Jensen and I had met less than a month before, and our shared love of steam locomotives quickly resulted in our first road trip. We had started this day along the Rat Hole Division, where we caught N&W 1218 on a run from Cincinatti to Knoxville. After chasing the mainline excursion for a couple of hours, we broke off the chase and headed to Paris, Kentucky, for a ride on the Kentucky Central Railroad. The power for the train was a standard Baldwin off-the-shelf 2-6-2, once famous for serving on the Reader Railroad. The train ran from Paris to Carlisle, where a siding allowed the locomotive to run around the train for the return to Paris. This recording was made from the train on the return trip, not long after the train's departure from Carlisle.
