Pretty funny.  This I presume was during the return run to Portland after AFT was over.

Yes. We had a few days lay-over in LA. Also, note Dick Yager in the background.

I always thought it was too bad that nobody could coax Dick Yager out of his shell.

Some folks are like that- shy, soft spoken, and contemplative.

When I met Yeager , he was the opposite character.. Loud, Boisterous, joking and
given "to riding-off in all directions at once..."

Especially if there were live steam engines to be caught!
To me, he was a  joyous "hoot" to be around..

When the 4449's tender drawbar pin fell out*, near DelRio, Tx, it was Yeager that found it
in the weeds and hoisted it on his shoulder, then carried it the better part of
a mile, up the tracks --- then he crawled under the tender and single-handedly pushed it up,
and back into place..  A 6- inch diameter steel pin by almost 4 ft long... weighs about 380 lbs

He was a BEAR of strength ...

Loved your picture of Doyle, above..

Left cushion and a snack.  God was in His Heaven, and All was Right.

Yes, Dick Yager was a nice guy.  I liked him a lot, a "real hoot to be around."  Knew him in Chicago days.

One time in the Salmonberry River Canyon on the Port of Tillamook Bay, Dick found out that Oregon State Police Game Officers were State Troopers also.
