Steam & Excursion > There Is Plenty Of Steam Action By These Cattle Pens This Day!Date: 04/18/21 03:33 There Is Plenty Of Steam Action By These Cattle Pens This Day! Author: LoggerHogger Once the terminus for the Placerville & Sacramento Railroad, Latrobe, California was not much more than a siding on the Southern Pacific by the 1950's when California railfan, Stan Snook captured this fine image.
Stan was on hand to catch SP #2312 double heading with SP #2788 past the cattle pens at Latrobe this warm summer day. While this was likely an excursion, it certainly must have been the most action Latrobe had seen for quite some time. Martin Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 04/18/21 03:47 by LoggerHogger. Not exactly summer, but Sacramento reported a high of 75 that day. Flyer below courtesy the Western Railway Museum Archives. Photos on the CP< part of the trip are here:

The only scheduled "break" was from 4:00 to 5:00pm in Placerville on the return trip...IF they were able to stick to the schedule.
