The video actually captures #2472's deadhead run south to Los Angeles the week before before the Earth Train. You can tell because no big Earth logo on the tender. It was run as a public excursion called the Pacific Limited (not to be confused with the Union Pacific steam excursions from the same era).

I have been to the Oxnard station many times in recent years boarding the Pacific Surfliner to San Diego. The big curve and I think the depot itself are still there, though the station has been renovated and the platform is now on the north end of the station at the very start of the curve.

That is correct. I rode the trip out of LA on the helpers. I posted a few videos of that trip.

I must have been standing with 50' of the photographer for the first portion.  I honestly don't remember it stopping, but nothing new in that.  :-)
