C&IM RS1325 #31 public debut.
Author: Off-pending

The former C&IM RS1325 #31 will be making its public debut this weekend at the Monticello Railway Museums Railroad Days event. The loco is scheduled to pull trains on both days of the event.

This loco was acquired last year along with former Illinois Terminal SW1200 #784, which will be on display.

The museum took advantage of Covid to concentrate on restoring several pieces of equipment. They will be on display as well.

The museum also started the tear down and inspection of former Southern 2-8-0 steam loco, which was scheduled for 2021. It is currently in the process of being put back together for the 2022 season.

VERY happy that this locomotive was saved, being a class of two.  Hopefully some day it can make it back into it's as built paint scheme.

Nice collection of 50's-60's vintage rolling stock, too.

Since this locomotive was acquired by the museum, I've been keeping an eye out for photos from back when.

Here is a J.W. Stubblefield shot of C&IM #31 at Springfield, Illinois, in October, 1974.

A few more historic shots of locomotives now at Monticello:

1. Norfolk & Western #3725, the once and future Wabash #1189 at Windsor, Ontario, on March 14, 1973, in a photo by Roger Teskey.

2. Canadian National FPA4 #6789 at Toronto , September, 1979, from a slide by Roger Durfee.

3. Now with VIA, #6789 is at North Bay, Ontario, on August 8, 1985, from a Jim Kleeman slide.

The F unit, which is operational is back in the blue, gray and white Wabash scheme. The CN FPA, which is also operational, is back in the CN green paint scheme. I rode in the cab of that loco.

You have to wonder that if EMD had offered an SW1500 based version of the RS1325 if it would have sold.
The toilet in that nose might have been very welcome on the roads that tended to use their SW1500's for everything.
(I'm looking at you Southern Pacific...)

Thought it made its public debut back in April?

Railroad Days weekend brings in a much larger audience then a typical operating weekend.

That was a Throttle Time event. Wasn’t open to the public, wasn’t pulling excursions. This is the first event that the loco will be pulling passengers.

If so, that model would have looked a lot like the GMD1s north of the border.  Not a bad look in the least, IMHO

Cheers,

Basically a GMD1 with a standard EMD 81" low nose.
