Now that the Mallet is all painted up and pretty.....how is the track repair coming?  Any tree and brush cutting done on Helmstetters Curve?   Finally, when will there be some test runs?

The new management might want to be making points with everyone by trying to exceed or matching the secretive nature of the prior management.  You have no rights to know.  They have not even given any progress report on the brick arch construction.  And why haven’t they even given the true counts of the ties requirement for FRA Class 3 track. The count is the same for Class 2, except Class 3 has the good tie at the joint within 18”.  They have had men working on the track so why has there been no report of the number installed to at least give themselves some credit?

And then there is the simple three man walk with a 62’ long chord to take a measurement every 31 feet to see the profile leading up to the turntable that some are so fearful of bending the boiler or hanging the wheels.  Over 5” would be the limit representing a 1200’ radius VC.  It is all B/S about need to rebuilt the road crossing as the vertical curve can be shimmed under the rails at the center of the turntable.  They need to put new timber on that turntable in not too distance future anyways.  And the inner guard rails will quickly solve the question of the sharp curve leading to the station.  There are smarter quick fixes.

Patience -- good things await.

I don't know that I've ever seen another tourist op or museum give such details as these.  This is a group that's been plagued with either bad or no PR.  They've been focusing what I've seen on the excursions they're already running -- great!  Given their new management and knowing who's involved I have some confidence in them.

If they don't pull it off, it's not us they'll be held accountable to -- it'll be the banks and Allegany County.

The county has been doing work on the track. The railroad has been working on the track they’re responsible for in West Virginia. The brush is still there. The engine will run “when it’s ready.” First public excursions with 1309 are scheduled for December and are Polar Express runs.

Few years in.

I frankly doubt that anyone in an actual position of power cares in the slightest what TO says about how he's doing his job.

We’ve never let that stop us before, myself included.

1309 is as limber as a Shay,
and stronger than two SD9s.

The rotten-track coal branches where they spent their short
“freight-lives”… were as twisty and
uneven as a limber serpent.

It will so good to see it on Christmas
Trains ….

They are very close.
And wise to very discrete about
what what gets into the public
chatter box..

The east coast has a lot of exciting
operations here now, and coming
Over the next couple of years..

It’ll be fun, again…
