A few from SCRM Perris, CA today...
Author: PasadenaSub

My wife and I made a mid-day trip to Perris to the Southern California Railway Museum (formerly OERM) today to ride and see the last runs of Ventura County #2 this weekend before she undergoes her FRA boilerwork, which will probably take her out of action for at least a year.

Here's a few pics of the steamer plus some others from around the museum grounds.

1-3) Three views of the 2-6-2 in the boarding area.  We probably chose the worst time of day for lighting, since the sun was up and down the track and from behind.  However, a hot day was forecast and we needed to be somewhere later in the afternoon.  Alternating on the mainline was Pacific Electric Car 717.  The train with VC2 is making runs every hour on the hour between 11am and 4pm this weekend.

4) We happened upon PE Blimp 498 being repainted in a classic 50s paint scheme and then got a tour from a generous gentleman (pictured) at the standard guage car barn.

5) Los Angeles Railway car 1201 was running on the inside streetcar loop.

6) Looking back at one of the car shops/storage buildings while trekking on foot.

7-9) The engines of Ward Kimball and his Grizzly Flats railroad, the Chloe and Emma Nevada - the latter of which was undergoing a rebuild.

Thanks for looking,

Rich

Great Photos Rich!  Thanks for getting these posted so quickly for those of us that didn't make it out there today.  I was curious to see what state the Emma Nevada was in and your photo of the narrow gauge 2-6-0 provided an update.

The one thing about VC 2 that strikes me as curious. That big long cab.

The thing I wonder about when I see VCY #2 is that oddly-shaped tender.

That is a wild looking tender.  Was it like that in service?

The cab is original-ish - when the locomotive was rebuilt in the SP Bayshore shops in the mid-1940s, the original wooden cab was replaced with this one.

The tender has been modified a couple times - the Ventura County Railway added a full-width extension to the water tank. The width was cut down at the museum to improve visibility while reversing.

Thanks for the report, Rich.  The SCRM (OERM; have to break myself of that habit) keeps getting better and better.
