Thrall-door all-door boxcar built by Thrall. Two (or three?) doors could be opened to allow easy loading with a forklift and protection from the weather. Southern Railway had their own version with roll-up doors. As the above poster mentioned, they were pretty much replaced by centerbeam flats.

Here's the Southern version: https://www.garlic.com/~tomd/railforums/alldoorbox1.jpg

And as modified by NS: https://hotraincollector.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/hoc-all-door-boxcar-09.jpg

Wow, I am amazed that the Thrall all door box car is such a mystery. It isn't as obscure in history as alot of things. The first car was an idea of Flake Willis of the McCloud River where the prototype was tested. They went on to buy a bunch as well as a lot of timber producing companies. The idea is the are 4 doors on each side that like plug door cars swing out so they can over lap the other doors. This made it so you could open the two center doors or both at one end or the other exposing 50 percent of the car side in the middle or the ends.

Here is a great write up with great pictures Equipment & Rolling Stock Details - All-Door Boxcars (mccloudriverrailroad.com)

A number of companies used these cars for finished premium products. Clear pine for example for moldings, door jambs and window stock.
