I agree but, no doubt he needs some rest and to attend to other obligations. He previously had me in a fettish because of no postings but I began to realize it happens every year. But, to make us feel better:  WHERE THE HELL IS LOGGERHAULER ?

There, now don't we feel better ?

I agree. Martin's absence sort of makes this subject area of dwindling interest.

From what I have been told, he has been somewhat swamped with paper work, requests etc regarding the Kepner steam locomotive collection and finding a good home for the locomotives.

He's posting regularly over on Facebook.

Well, he indeed may be "swamped with paper work", but THAT is not why he is no longer posting here on TO. He is now on "faceplant" where he can moderate his own threads.

I thought the outcome for the Kepner collection was sound.  The alternative would have been most likely the scrapper as the cost of moving the locomotives probably exceeded their value. It is not like there is a big market for decrepit steam locomotives. While I disagree with the opinions that some people posted conerning the plan for the collection, I can't go and delete opposing viewpoints. If I did that then what is the point of having a discussion forum where differing opinions are pulled.  We yanked some that came off as personal attacks that violated our guidelines, but others were respectful and there is no justification to remove them. People have a right to express their opinion and that is what Trainorders is about.

I agree. I have no idea, but I imagine the cost of hiring hiring someone to come appraise everything alone would sour the family's interest as opposed to some money made on scrapping. Then they'd have to handle the haggling and logistics of all that. They might find it no more interesting than a barnyard of stripped junk cars. Some might be valuable, IF you can find a buyer. but how many times are you going to take the time to deal with one before it sells for probably not much more than scrap, when you can have scrap value right now?

Even if none of them end up in a perfectly historically accurate home, I just don't get the opinion that selling the whole lot to a well connected and invested group wasn't a win all around.

I'm curious, why such strong dislike of facebook? I've been both here and there for years for different reasons, there mainly because of my other interests, and like "discussion" here they have "groups" such as local bands, Searay boats, antique trucks, heavy haul equipment, steam locomotives....there's tons of really stupid stuff too, but as with any other site you can just scroll on by, or even block whatever you don't like. I don't care about pictures of someones dinner or who cut them off in traffic, and certainly not what the ultra-bitchy vintage hi-fi jackasses have to say, but I am enjoying Martins' numerous daily posts.

Cheers, Dave

I too debated not renewing my membership a few weeks ago because of what I consider totally over the top censoring on this site. Let's be honest. Like it or not politics play a role in nearly every aspect of today's railroad scene, whether it be Amtrak or the freight side of the industry there's nearly always a politicol segment. As there will now clearly be more and more public/private partnerships develop as the billions of dollars in federal funds via the Infrastructure bill make their way into the economy, politics and railroading will become even more linked.

My recent experience on this site is that threads that contain any direct mention of politics ( regardless of content) run the very real risk of near instant erasure. Way, way over moderated IMHO.

I elected to stay as I do enjoy the site as a good meeting place with fellow railfans but I came close to pulling the pin.

Sorry that this negative cost us the daily contribution of Logger Hogger. I avoid Faceplant so guess I'll have to learn to live without his daily input.

    Happy New Year. Ross Rowland

I miss Martin's posts, and hope he can return.
I dislike fb because of the constant interruptions, inane "shares" of meals etc.,  trolls from female "friend requests", and the expectation that everything must have an immediate response.
It is  like being in a room with hundreds of shouting people and I would ping-pong between them, failing to grasp most of what is going on.
I rether enjoyed the political rants here on TO, the arguments presented told me more about the authors than the subject matter.

Thanks had asked via pm and found out the same from him. I look forward to those on FB and the comments made by others adding to some posts.

I did not like FB friends requests from people who were not friends and having to clear out that crap.  In addition many crooks try to invade your computer thru friend requests.  So I finally said to hell with it and killed it.

Three words:  Facebook is evil.  They have overwhelmingly contributed to spreading disinformation about the pandemic, killing people,  and worsening the political divide that threatens this nation.  And they don't care as long as they are making money.

Boomerism is alive and well in this topic... I find it amusing that many of the folks who defiantly and adamantly denounce Facebook are the same folks complaining that they're missing out on something going on there... Looks like Martin's posts are on the latter list now... So your choices are either stick by your principles and kiss Martin goodbye, or swallow your pride and toss him a friend request... Pick whichever decision makes you happiest... Whining about it TBH is just annoying...

There is a political side to many issues, yes, but people grow tired of the poo-slinging matches that political discussions turn into every damn time; that's why censoring happens... On that evil social network site, I had added Steve Schmollinger (may he rest in peace) as a friend because his photography is legendary... I ended up unfriending him because 90% of his posts were politically driven, and the sporadic pics of SP U33Cs here and there didn't make it worth it... The political drivel got so old, so fast...

Political issues can *never* unite people, only divide... We all have our opinions and no one ever backs down... Some of us have more productive and cheerful things we would like to focus on...

Then this site is evil too, as are most sites. There has been disinformation about the pandemic, political comments, everything that you feel make Facebook evil on this site. So what does a person do, become a hermit, living off the grid?

Nope, as TO does NOT track everything I do, as "Faceplant" does!

Nope, because such crap is generally deleted here.

So what does a person

Sure. Without "Faceplant".
