Haven't seen any photos or video of said engine on the Frosrburg turntable. Has this been tried yet?

NO.  The county owns the right of way and bridge timber on the TT are needing replacement.  They are too cheap to even take the profile of the grade up to the flat turntable.  If they get a profile they can order special thickness of timber to put any vertical curve needed on the turntable by humping the rails on the TT.

They have many steam runs planned for this year... Guessing they'd be forced to run a diesel on the rear end to lead on the way back?

Using a diesel to lead the return somewhat makes sense.  It's mostly downhill, and dynamics are mighty useful.  If you're onboad you won't hear much stack talk on the return.  Still it's fun to watch from the dome 1309 coasting down into Cumberland in the lead.

...except that one of the major considerations behind the purchase on 1309 in the first place, was eliminating the need for the second crew on the diesels.
