My dad is from Cresson, PA, and had just come home from Viet Nam when he got to watch 759 climb Horse Shoe Curve in 1970. He was hooked! He didn't know about 765 until he happened upon a Railfan & Railroad story about the Van Sweringen berks in the winter of '83-84. He decided he had to show his boys the sister of his favorite locomotive. I'm so grateful he did! That first trip was an excursion between Brewster and Toledo on May 19, 1984. It was the first of many, many, many to follow. For about 12 years Dad took me to as many 765 trips as he could afford. After that I took him. A hearty thanks to HICO, Fort Wayne, and all the other steam crews for making these splendid machines available for so many people to enjoy... including 3 generations of my family. Blessings! Markus V. “The Fort” in Indiana Posted from iPhone Date: 05/17/22 19:57 Re: NKP 765 - 05/19/1984 Author: refarkas This may have been a fireman in training because I know it was not a photo runby.
