LIRR G5?

I seem to recall a decade or so ago that the LIRR G5 Ten-wheeler 39 was being restored to service. By Strasburg??? Have not heard anything in a long time. Dead project?

Pretty sure that the steam shop at Strasburg is still awaiting funds in order to continue working on the G5.

I think that locomotive is owned by another group, who is raising funds to have it restored by Strasburg (where it presently sits).  This website highlights the deal, but in short they have a certain amount of time to raise funds, at which point Strasburg will restore and operate the locomotive on a leased basis

I clicked on the Strasburg site given but see no mention of the G-5.  Is it physically in Strasburg PA?  I have not seen any photos or mention on T.O. for quite some time.

Thanks for the link, Sean. Here's the quote from No. 39's website:

"In March 2013, the Railroad Museum of Long Island entered into a restoration partnership with the Strasburg Rail Road Company of Strasburg, PA.  The RMLI must raise +$1,000,000.00 in fifteen years. Following that goal, Strasburg will restore the #39 in three years time.  When operational, the RMLI will lease the locomotive to the Strasburg Rail Road for a minimum of 48 years."

So apparently they have until 2028 to raise the million.

This is the worst agreement ever designed with zero chance of success.  The folks with the money do not have the time to ever see this to succeed in their life time.

Also no mention of how much they've raised and I didn't notice a donation link on their website. Should have a link right after they mention the million bucks.
