My take on #765 trip 8-28-22
Author: junctiontower

Definitely not my best work, even by my modest standards. Fought the lighting all day long and I tried to hit too many locations leading to rushed shots.

1) The crew goes about their preparation at Edon OH.

2) Getting ready for departure.

3) Preparing to take the Main.

I saw the signs for that road and immediately thought "Hello!  My name is Algernon W. Quackenbush, but my friends call me 'Quackie!'"

Not at all bad for not the best work.  I like them!

Ron,
That's the Geisler Bell, and it's aluminum bushing that you guys made...
They fit together like a GLOVE, when we mounted it on 765..
The bell "tapers" were identical 759 to 765...

It rings loud and clear...even engineers with hearing 'issues', can
hear it above the stack roar and cab noise!

Thank you for making the trip to pick-up the Bell from their shop, way back when!

Wes

Well, for crappy light and crappy photos comes a nice series of images.  You did well.
Consider this though:  You saw it, you heard it, you felt and smelled it!
Some of us out here who aren't free to roam those operations miss it more than you know.
There were times when I would just leave the camera in the car and experience the whole thing.
Sometimes I think about guys like Dick Kindig, Otto Perry,Joe Collias and many other great RR photographers and the idea of just SEEING all of the things they had shot is unbelievable.

I think you did really really well.  Especially in capturing the surroundings as the 765 passed by people,  buildings and the like  The telly shots showed Super Power steam at its best.   I rate the entire series an A.

In junctiontower's photo #22, the passengers in the open air baggage car, I am the individual at the front of the rear door with the blue shirt, goggles and floppy hat hanging on my back.  I love riding in an open vestibule or open baggage car door as I thoroughly enjoy listening to the locomotive work and the wailing steam whistle crossing after crossing.  I never get tired of that.  And the reactions of unsuspecting motorists caught at grade crossings is priceless.
Yes, we passed through a brief rain shower on the return trip as evidenced in the photo.  The rain moved the photo runby location from Ray to Pleasant Lake.
I met a middle aged couple riding their first ever steam excursion, and like me they had bought tickets to ride in the baggage car.  I enjoyed explaining whistle signals to them and encouraged them to detrain at Pleasant Lake to observe the photo runby from the ground.  After listening to the whistle for so long, the gentleman asked why the "horn" seemed to trail off at times.  After gently correcting him as to the terminology - it's a steam whistle and not a diesel air horn - I explained how the engineer can "play" the whistle cord for a low pitch, full blast and trailing off.  I explained whistle signals - two longs to proceed forward, three to back up, one long to indicate brakes are set (and reverse gear centered) and of course the two longs, a short and a long crossing after crossing.  At the end of the day both told me they enjoyed riding in the baggage car and the experience it brought.  They thanked me for my commentary as it made their experience more enjoyable knowing what all was going on.  And I enjoyed being an unofficial tour guide.
Back at the hotel after the trip it took three shampoos in the shower to wash all the cinders out of my hair.  I had a wonderful time on the trip.

I like #13 and #21 and #12 isn't half bad either, very unique perspective.
