Sunday at Monticello's Railroad Days
Author: MaryMcPherson

I was out and about at Monticello again today.  Here are some highlights of today's shooting, starting off in Stair Tower just north of the Nelson Crossing station.

1. The lever operator looks out the window toward Illinois & Midland RS1325 #31.

2. Another volunteer looking north with Southern Railway #401 and the mixed train in the distance.

3. The leverman lining a route after #401 has backed into the station.

Moving downtown a block from the Wabash depot (which has been relocated along the former Illinois Central trackage the museum owns), some flowers were still in bloom and just begging to be worked into some photography.  Of course, I had to lay on the ground to get some of the angles.

4. Wabash F9A #1189 with the streamliner.

5. Illinois & Midland #31 on the freight train.

6. Southern #401 with the mixed train.

Back at the Nelson Crossing area, and shooting black & white for that vintage look.

7. Republic Steel 0-6-0 #191 stands by as #401 awaits the highball.

8. Departing Nelson Crossing, #401 passes Stair Tower.

From Nelson Crossing, it was down to Camp Creek and the wooden trestle that crosses it.

9. Maybe not as dramatic as the famous Shaughnessy view of a Pacific in winter, but I could have done worse.

10. The mixed train heads north up the hill from Camp Creek.

11. One more crack at the pan & zoom effect with #1189 passing by the Camp Creek Yard.

12. My last shot of the day, as #401 passes with another trainload of happy people riding between downtown and the museum.

It's quite an enjoyable weekend if you've never been, and it's the third weekend of September every year.
