Bill's box camera caught NYC 5413 in Linndale, Ohio on September 6, 1953. The catenary belongs to the still-electrified Cleveland Union Terminal.

An excellent old photo of one of the finest steam engines that any rail line could have had and it's a crime that not one of them was saved.

5413 was known as a "voodoo" engine by the NYC employees in Rochester, NY. It derailed on a passenger run eastbound on the Brown Street curve, falling down an embankment and landing in someones apartment, killing a sleeping resident. The derailement took days to clear. It also ran through the front wall of it's stall in the Rochester roundhouse. Another night, it took off on its own at the engine terminal, damaging several switches and injuring an emloyee who tried to stop it. 5413; 5 + 4 + 1 + 3 = 13.  As told to me by a steam veteran during my days as a "summer help" fireman in 1965.
