Steam & Excursion > Bill Gwinn Photos (The Last) - NYC 5424Date: 01/31/23 06:53 Bill Gwinn Photos (The Last) - NYC 5424 Author: refarkas Some will look at this series of photos and see less-than-good photos even with modern photo editing software. Others will look at this streetcar motorman's/bus driver's photos and realize he did the best with what he could afford. Here is my favorite. I saved it for last.
NYC 5424 is along the lakefront in Cleveland, Ohio on September 6, 1953. Thanks for all the comments. I think Bill would have enjoyed them. Bob Date: 01/31/23 07:06 Re: Bill Gwinn Photos (The Last) - NYC 5424 Author: jimeng A wonderful collection of photos!
Thanks for posting them. Jim Kreider Date: 01/31/23 08:20 Re: Bill Gwinn Photos (The Last) - NYC 5424 Author: Notch76 Thank You For Sharing these Great Shots

Tom Date: 01/31/23 09:04 Re: Bill Gwinn Photos (The Last) - NYC 5424 Author: wcamp1472 By the position of the Baker valve gear (reversing yoke) and the
power reverse piston rod, the engine and train are shoving backwards. Apparently at a slow speed. The front-end throttle is about 1/3 'open'..... W. Edited 2 time(s). Gary Date: 01/31/23 15:45 Re: Bill Gwinn Photos (The Last) - NYC 5424 Author: Copy19 Wow, that tender really carries a lot of coal! Great shots of Central steam.

I too am always “wowed” by the 30 tons of coal carried by the NYC Hudson’s. While it limited the water capacity to 14,000 gallons, that could be replenished over the track pans at speed. Oh to have seen these beasts in person. Thanks again!

PT-2 & later.. carried 18,000 gals water + high speed water scooping capacity ... W. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/31/23 17:28 by wcamp1472. Date: 01/31/23 17:47 Re: Bill Gwinn Photos (The Last) - NYC 5424 Author: just4frost When fully loaded, the tender weighed more than the engine.
