No chance in hell I'm donating to that Museum, cab ride or not.  It's a classless organization with pretty rude people from my experiences.

Watch this. It will be interesting to find out how it ends up. As an Ebay member, I can see the bids.

Minimum bid was $1, at 6 AM PDT yesterday.
Then no bids for a while -- must have been
a surprise to everyone.

It says in lieu of the museum fundraiser.  What was the previous fundraiser and why would they limit it to a single individual if it was a much larger fundraiser before?

Yes exactly, that link, while now verified as legit, only added to the red flags.

I say thank you to the Union Pacific for being the only Class 1 that makes a real effort to celebrate its proud heritage and for educating the general public to the critically important role the railroads and the steam locomotive had in the growth of the nation.

I hope the bid goes through the roof as it is for a good cause.

Typically, the most fierce bidding happens in the last,
closing minutes before the gavel slams down..

I'd guess it easily goes above $30,000.00

Glad I had many hours firing the Big Girls...
Thank you, Ross for the wonderful years of
HICO and later steam powered events..
Look at what you started!
( Wayyyy back 1966..).

Regardless of price, there's no obligation for the winning bidder to pay.  In my experience on ebay, when offering it to a second bidder after the first doesn't pay never works.  So we'll see where it goes and if the person actually pays.

How will you see after the fact? Seems like when it closes, it closes and outsiders never see the behind scenes.

Well one indication would be a re-listing.  But I think ebay has additional precautions for high price auctions to discourage non paying bidders.

Just curious about your comment,  about the UP Steam Crew being a classless organization and has rude personal ?  What caused you to have that opinion ?

I believe his negative comment was about the museum not the UPRR steam team?  Ross Rowland

On one hand, I get it... It's a fundraiser, and an auction would raise the most funds.

On the other hand, the demographic that would probably appreciate such an experience the most is hopelessly priced into exclusion. I think a raffle would have gone over better publicity wise even if it didn't generate as much money. Over on the social media side, the reaction is mainly scoffing.

Last year it was an excursion from Denver to Cheyenne. They only sold public tickets in a couple of cars, though. The UP Museum has operated a number of excursions in the past few years as fundraisers. Usually as a part of other movements taking place at the same time that invovle steam or other heritage equipment.
