East Broad Top - June 2nd
Author: birdman

My wife and I visited the East Broad Top RR today.  We chased the 11:00 train and rode the 1:00 train.  It was an amazing and wonderful day.

Sharp photos!  Great to see the EBT back up and running again.

Any issues with cinders? I have tickets for a trip in late June with my family in the open car.

You can see in the photos the car in which we rode.  It was toward the rear of the train and had a roof.  No trouble at all with cinders.

Excellent photos - My favorite is photo three with the train crossing the bridge.

Great pics thanks for posting My oldest grandson and I are booked in the caboose on July 2nd. Years ago I rode with my youngest son. We rode in the gondola behind 15 and we were covered in cinders. But worth it. Thanks again for the pics.

If you know that you are going to be rained down in cinders, wear some eye protection. Getting them in your eyes is no fun. I know that from experience and often bring goggles and wear them when I have too, and just hang them on my neck when I don't. Sitting in an open window coach with your head out the window without goggles is not good.

Victor is 100% correct. I wear glasses and never worried about it. But a few years ago while riding behind a doubleheader charging up Cumbres Pass my grandson got a cinder in the eye. No fun and lots of tears. So yes, wear eye protection!

Not to mention that the cinders get in your hair and under your shirt. That's why railroaders in the steam era would wear caps and bandanas.
