The 2nd shot is spectacular!
I fail to understand that switch in the 3rd shot, it has to derail.

No it doesn't. It is a standard 3-way stub switch. The big tall operating lever moves the track so as to align with each of the three available track routes.

Any path, approaching from the 'frogs' area, that is NOT aligned to
the stock rails, will derail.

Proceeding from the stock rails, traffic will be directed to one of
3 choices.  Note also, that there are 3 notches on the harp switch stand.

The advantage over 'conventional' switches is that you'd need
extended ground space to allow the placement of two, two-way switches--
and yes, I've seen 'compressed' conventional switches that involve
two switch-stands, several 'frogs' --- all compressed together, and
occupying much more land.

The 3-way stub switch, above, is an elegant solution, that takes up mimium
real estate.  And it solves a problem in a tight situation.

W.

Kinda like turntable rail.
