Geez those NP engines always seemed homely to me with that great big headlight up front! (A face only a mother could love!)

Thanks for sharing. The headlight looks like it has a chimney on it. Was it a hand-me-down from an earlier era without standard electrical power?

I concur. I am baffled at NP’s affinity for high, huge and mostly ugly headlight arrangements. It seems to me they had a roster of steam engines, most of which had a running chance to be very handsome. But oh my, those headlights… 🤣

SP&S #700 has the same design headlight. That front facing "protrusion" on top is where the locomotive road number is painted.

That is a Pyle-National headlight. NP's standard headlight.
