Whenever I put gas in my car, I try to round the gallons or the dollar amount up to a steam engine number such as 8.44, 10.03, 12.18, 12.25 etc for the gallons purchased or $29.26, $37.51, $39.85.  Most of the time I can make one or the other, but not always.  Since I only have a 12 gallon tank, 12.25 gallons is the highest I can go and that's only if I'm so low that I'm running on fumes. It's a fun challenge to see what steam engines I can match every time I fill up. Sometimes I get really lucky and the gallons and price are both steam engine numbers.  It's really rare, but I've had it happen a couple of times.

I was riding an excursion in the late 80's or early 90's and there was a gentleman in our coach talking about how he'd order the $6.11 special from Wendy's. He'd figured out what to order so that with tax the total would be $6.11. As word got around other railfans showed up to talk about doing the same thing at other restaurants. By the end of the day the group had compiled a list several restaruants and what you needed to order to get to $6.11.  If you were a big spender, most had figured out $12.18 as well. Honestly, I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. He we were riding behind a 4-8-4, yet that was the hot topic of conversation for several passengers.
