Wonderful display at the CNW station in Douglas. 5631, the Silver Salver diner and other goodies. Museum was closed on that morning. Compliments a nice downtown area not far from the freeway or the County Fair. Nice stop when visiting the PRB. t4p. ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 09/16/23 06:58 Re: CB&Q 5633 at Douglas, WY Author: BuddPullman Terrific photos of historic CB&Q displays.
Always great to see the "Silver Salver" and the "Northern". Thank you. Date: 09/16/23 17:11 Re: CB&Q 5633 at Douglas, WY Author: bankshotone dan Wrote:

The world needs more like him! Date: 09/17/23 09:22 Re: CB&Q 5633 at Douglas, WY Author: hawkinsun Thanks for the photos. I'm kind of partial to the CB&Q northerns ever since chasing 5632 with my dad and siblings back in the 60s. We couldn't afford to ride behind 5632 but had a great time freezing my butt off in northern Illinois winter, and watching her race by at somewhere close to 80 MPH. The train got a late start one day and was trying to make up time, I heard. It had eighteen heavy weights in tow. NO diesels. I'll have to dig out my photos. I wish we had video back then. It was a sight to make you laugh and cry at the same time. A rush like no stoners could get.
The last time I got to see the Northern in Sheridan was in about 1977. The poor thing looked neglected and pigeons were flying in and out of the cab. I think I saw pics where it's now under roof and taken better care of. It saddens me to see so many display engines that have lost some of their jewelry so to speak. Sometimes little things that make an engine sparkle like when it was being used. Headlights almost always seem to be rocked out and not often replaced to look like the original. I know headlight bulbs are in short supply but LEDs just look horrible in therir place . The reflectors and the lenses are tuff to replace too. Class lamp lenses on these engines would help, too. Those are often available on Ebay. Several of these engines seem to have also lost the shroud on the headlight. I wish I had one near me to work on. Thanks again, Craig Hanson, Vay, Idaho Date: 09/18/23 19:27 Re: CB&Q 5633 at Douglas, WY Author: LocoPilot750 I'm amazed it still has its whistle.
