Abilene & Smoky Valley Rly 3415 Sept 15

Despite rainy weather September 15, 2023 was a banner day with Abilene & Smoky Valley Railway photographer special with former ATSF 3415, 4-6-2.

Night photo session was held at Abilene, Kansas, in constant rain, which added to the scene.

Former Santa Fe 3415 oil burner work perfectly.  She starts a two-year flue inspection beginning October 2023.  Rainy 15 September 2023 - where was Lance-?!?  Likely chasing Kansas rainbows.

Rain didn't deter this Nikon D610 photographer near the red barn at Dickinson County Heritage Center,  15 September 2023.

Locals came out to check out special train at Enterprise, Kansas, 15 September 2023.  Mom Trisha Elliott with her 18 month old daughter Jenara.  Right organizer Dak Dillon talked with Ross Boelling president and general manager.  Impressive outing thanks to their efforts.

Is their depot in front of President Eisenhower's boyhood home? I was in Abilene this summer. At the Eisenhower property, I could see a BNSF train working a grain elevator, and stopped at the former UP? deport for some info.

I read that yesterday was also "the day of the cowgirl" https://nationaldayofthecowgirl.com/ which ended up as very appropriate for photo 1!

Former UP Abilene, KS, Freight House - Sept 16

The Abilene & Smoky Valley Railway depot (ex-Rock Island) is located south of the President Eisenhower Library.  I'm not aware of the Eisenhower's boyhood home location.

The boyhood home is about ~500 feet directly north of the A&SV depot in the middle of the Eisenhower Presidential Library/Museum grounds
