Steam & Excursion > Let's Hear It - Cumbres & ToltecDate: 09/23/23 03:05 Let's Hear It - Cumbres & Toltec Author: MaryMcPherson It's been pointed out in the past that I really pay attention to the sound with the video I shoot. In preparation for our trip to the Rio Grande narrow gauge I picked up a new Zoom F3 sound recorder, mostly with the intention of backing up what the cameras have captured. As it turns out, the wind has been so bad that even this has been tricky... was that a cow that just flew by?
Here is a trio of scenes with sound from the F3 recorder, an AudioTechnica AT-8024 stereo microphone and multiple cameras. Enjoy! I remember when 1522 started running, it would shut down videos with her exhaust. Next time you're around the R&N, particularly after 425 is back on line you need to take this up there. You've set the bar very high. Thank you. Date: 09/23/23 06:31 Re: Let's Hear It - Cumbres & Toltec Author: jkh2cpu The video and sound is outstanding.

Thanks so much for posting it here for all to see. Date: 09/23/23 10:26 Re: Let's Hear It - Cumbres & Toltec Author: Earlk They must have put in at slow order out there at MP 285 where you caught 463. You can hear her slowing down at the beginning of shot. Usually they are making about 20 out there. Seeing and hearing 463 with her little 40" drivers running out there with her ears pinned back at 20+ is a sight and sound to behold.

Sounds just like it would if standing there. Really caught the whistle/chugging and echo sound, plus of that bird winging away too, near end of video. Date: 09/24/23 15:27 Re: Let's Hear It - Cumbres & Toltec Author: Cumbresfan Awesome sound! Just for the fun of it, compare for a few seconds sound beginning at 1:20 of this video with sound at starting at 8:55 of this video:

Date: 09/24/23 15:45 Re: Let's Hear It - Cumbres & Toltec Author: Cumbresfan Besides the awesome sound, your great video highlights the difference in ridership between the west and east sides of the RR. The full train crossing the Chama River contrasts with the paucity of riders out of Antonito. IMO, to see the full experience of the RR start out from the flat scrub brush area at Antonito and climb to the sub-arctic zone at Cumbres Pass. Those that chose Chama-Osier-Chama miss the most spectacular scenery, two tunnels, Phantom Curve, Big Horn, Whiplash, Sublette and the Toltec Gorge. It's also the most remote section of the RR and except for a few spots, you won't see cars or photographers. And to prove it again to myself, I'm riding for the third time this year with the Goose on Thursday.
