Carbondale, Illinois, August 1957

I picked up some seriously reddened Ektachromes and got them through the scanner this afternoon.  While there was no data with the slides other than the month and year, it was evident the location and the rest could be extrapolated.  The story is below...

The freight cars are almost as interesting as the engines pulling them.

Just for fun, I wanted to try my hand at this too. Always love seeing the potential of older photos.

I will fully admit I changed the skybox of the third one, as the sky was too washed out to be salvageable.

Always love IC steam, and the progression of photoshopping was very interesting.  I go through the same process with scanned slides that have turned - after a while it starts to look better!

Great stuff.   When were they finally retired?    Couldn't not have been too much longer in service.

They were stricken from the roster in October of 1960, but would have last run in 1958.

Juxen, absolutely wonderful work on those photos!

And Mary, thanks for posting these. That view of the 2-10-2 is awesome.
