Steam & Excursion > Louisiana Cypress Lumber Company 2-8-0 #3Date: 02/21/24 04:00 Louisiana Cypress Lumber Company 2-8-0 #3 Author: gcm Sept 1976
#3 is in Ponchatoula,La where it had been displayed probably since its retirement in the late 40's. It was built by the Porter Company in 1914 as Lyons Cypress Lumber Co #1. Louisiana Cypress Lumber Co aquired it in the 20's and it was retired in the late 40's. This company operated a cypress lumber mill in Ponchatoula and operated tracks out into the cypress swamps for lumber. All steam to the end (1955) when most of the cypress was gone in those swamps and the line shutdown. #3 is still in Ponchatoula today but has been moved near the Illinois Central station in town. Thanks to elueck for the 2-8-0 correction. Gary Edited 1 time(s).
