Cass Scenic Railroad.

The great Shay race at Cass Scenic Railroad in Cass, West Virginia in May 1988.  At the start of that railfan weekend they lined up two Shay powered trains for a side by side race.

Don't I remember "Shay Racing Team" hats and jackets?

From that era......
( puts a smile on my face)

It looks to me that the one in the lead is supertheated, while the other is 'saturated'....

I used my phone spedometer app when riding behind the Sumpter Valley Heisler.  It exceeded 20 mph at times.  It could take those Shays!  :)
