Frisco, long before diesels and I-44
Author: Frisco1522

In a wide view from 1937, train #7, The Bluebonnet is heading west after its 1:30 PM departure from St. Louis Union Station. Shown in this view of Lindenwood from those days is the commuter station on the right side of the tracks, the Fyler Avenue bridge which was an excellent train watching spot and behind the embankment to the bridge the coal chute, roundhouse and machine shop are visible. The 1512 is making time on the main line through the yards. The Fyler bridge was originally over the Warrior River in AL. (R.J.Foster)
All gone long ago.  Interstate 44 would be dominating the right side of the photo.  Fyler bridge is gone and there's an intermodal facility on the left side.
This photo appeared in my Frisco Steam Salute book, hence the watermark.

I'm thinking it is early spring.  Bare trees and sun at about the right angle for that time of day.

The smoke laws were pretty vicious around St Louis and would get worse.  Fireman doesn't want to get a "smoke letter".  Regular fireman on a passenger run knows his job.
Speed limit through the yard was 45 on the main if I remember, so he's going to hit the climb up to Kirkwood at a healthy pace.
All was well in the Frisco world.
I have a lot more shots around SE Jct, but nobody seems to care that much for the Frisco.
Steam page is like a morgue any more.

Your historic Frisco postings are very much appreciated by this viewer.  And yes, the steam board has been painfully quiet.

Don, I enjoy your posts both here and on FB more than I can say, and after years of turning my nose up at anything not GN, NP or PNW Logging railroads you have singlehandedly (as I've said for a while now) turned me into a Frisco Fan...The Steam Page needs more of this.

Cheers, Dave (David S. Thon)
