Steam & Excursion > Steve Hauff at the ORHC - 3/27/24Date: 03/28/24 09:48 Steve Hauff at the ORHC - 3/27/24 Author: Jsporseen I went to the ORHC last evening for a presentation by Steve Hauff. His talk was very informative about the history of geared locomotives, mostly the Lima Shay, but also some information about Willamette, Heisler and Climax locomotives. It was especially relevant considering the Mt. Emily Shay sitting under a tarp outside the building on a garden track radiating from the recently installed turntable.
It will be brought in within a month or so when work is finished on the Polson #2 and space becomes available. It will then be gotten ready for this years Holiday Express. Steve has authored three books that I own and are excellent reads/references: The Willamette Locomotive by Steve Hauff and Jim Gertz, 1977 (1st Edition), Binford and Mort Timber Titans by Steve Hauff, Martin Hansen and Dale Sanders, 2021, White River Productions The Shay Locomotive by Steve Hauff, Richard Henderson, John Benson and George Kadelak, 2021, White River Productions Also notable is that the turntable is fully operational but with some work yet to be done, safety fencing, pathways, displays, etc. JOHN Edited 1 time(s).
