Three More for "Throwback Thursday."
Author: tehachcond

Three more of helper engines around Summit of Cajon Pass from the Nolan Black collection.

4.  A westbound UP smokes it up for the photographer, Dick Kindig near the east switch of Summit.  November, 1941.

5.  An EMD so-called "cow and calf' helper consist pauses in front of the Summit depot.  I believe these were formally known as TR-6's.  May, 1952.

6.  Even products of Fairbanks-Morse were used as helpers by both the UP and Santa Fe on Cajon Pass.  Summit, June, 1949.

Thanks for looking, and as always, comments welcome.

Very very nice!  The UP units in Pic #2 are a TR5A and TR5B, the cow and calf versions of EMD's SW9.  According to https://utahrails.net/up-diesel-roster/up-diesel-roster-31.php#tr5a-1870, UP 1870A was retired due to electrical failure and its frame and other components were used to build EJ&E 308, later ECRX 308.
