Steam & Excursion > Montezuma Lumber #346 to go to Durango for heavy rebuild. Aka D&R

From the Iron Horse News published by the Colorado Railroad Museum :  The No. 346 is in the process of being prepared for shipment to Durango in the spring, where its heavy rebuild will commence.  Only Jeff Taylor can tell us if the completed rebuild will be at Durango that could mean test runs possible on the Silverton Branch.  It is a shame WSL #9 is not being sent to Durango so we could see a Shay in Silverton again since Lima #269 worked there.
There will be no test run on the Silverton Branch account no tender and final rebuild will be at Golden.  Later travel will now be possible with the  rebuilt engine. Jeff Taylor made the followng announcement.

CRM must be doing OK money wise as they've just also purchased some adjacent acreage, good to see.
As to 346, very historical piece having run on more than just the Rio Grande.

According to the museum's newsletter and confirmed by Jeff Taylor on the NGDF, 346 will not be test run on the Durango & Silverton. Durango will perform the FRA-required boiler work as well as work on the running gear, and it will return to Golden for reassembly, painting, and testing. They are only shipping the locomotive to Durango, the tender will remain in Golden. This is the same process they used for 346's last rebuild and the restoration of RGS 20, both of which were done at the Strasburg RR. Jeff said they would perform a steam test in Durango, but nothing more than that. They do hope to get it out to other RRs in the future, with the C&TS being the most likely place for it to run outside of Golden.
